The Book, Tablet and Laptop Sleeve Sewing Pattern

The Book, Tablet and Laptop Sleeve is a padded, beginner-friendly sewing pattern designed to protect books, notebooks, tablets and laptops. Each fabric layer is cut as one long piece and folded in half, so there is no seam along the bottom. You can choose from three different top finishes and add an optional outside pocket.

Choose from three finishes:

• Option A: zip top
• Option B: open top with an elastic loop and button
• Option C: open top with a bow tie

Sizes:

• Book / A5: fits an item up to about 6 × 8 ½ in, 1 in thick (15 × 21.5 × 2.5 cm) — suitable for A5 notebooks, paperbacks, Kindle and iPad mini
• Small tablet: fits an item up to about 7 × 9 ¾ in (18 × 25 cm) — suitable for a 10–11 inch tablet
• Large tablet: fits an item up to about 8 ½ × 11 in (21.5 × 28 cm) — suitable for a 12.9–13 inch tablet
• Small laptop: fits an item up to about 12 × 8 ½ in (30.5 × 21.5 cm) — suitable for a 13 inch laptop, with the opening on the long side

Each size includes allowance for the thickness of your item, the padding and about 1 ½ in (4 cm) of ease so the item can slide in and out comfortably.

You will need: outer fabric, inner fabric, wadding or fleece, plus the closure materials for your chosen version. The zip-top option uses a zip; the loop-and-button version uses round elastic and a button; the bow-tie version uses ribbon or fabric ties.
