Dola Reversible Carry All Bag Sewing Pattern

Dola Reversible Carry All Bag is a roomy, fully lined carry-all bag that becomes reversible when both of your fabrics are suitable for outer use. It has a soft, relaxed shape and generous proportions, making it useful for shopping, classes, work, travel or everyday carrying.

Pattern features:

• Three nested sizes: Small, Medium and Large

Finished bag sizes:

• Small: approximately 12 1/4 in (31 cm) wide × 8 1/4 in (21 cm) high, with a 1 3/4 in (4 cm) base and approximately 6 1/4 in (16 cm) strap drop
• Medium: approximately 16 in (41 cm) wide × 11 1/2 in (29 cm) high, with a 2 1/2 in (6.5 cm) base and approximately 9 in (23 cm) strap drop
• Large: approximately 20 in (51 cm) wide × 14 3/4 in (37.5 cm) high, with a 3 1/2 in (9 cm) base and approximately 11 1/2 in (29 cm) strap drop

Recommended fabrics: stable woven fabrics with enough body to hold the bag shape work best. Suitable options include African wax print cotton, cotton canvas, twill, denim, linen blends, light to medium corduroy and other medium-weight wovens. For a softer bag, use quilting cotton or a lighter cotton. Avoid very stretchy knits and very heavy upholstery fabrics.

Because the bag can be reversible, choose two fabrics that look good together and have compatible care requirements.

Fabric requirements: for each of your two fabrics, based on 112 cm (44 in) wide fabric:

• Small: approximately 45 cm / 1/2 yd each for Option A. For Option B, approximately 50 cm / 1/2 yd of the fabric used for Strap B and 40 cm / 1/2 yd of the other fabric
• Medium: approximately 60 cm / 5/8 yd each for Option A. For Option B, approximately 65 cm / 3/4 yd of the fabric used for Strap B and 50 cm / 5/8 yd of the other fabric
• Large: approximately 1.2 m / 1 3/8 yd of each fabric for either strap option

You will need: all-purpose thread, pins or sewing clips, fabric scissors or rotary cutter and mat, iron and ironing board, ruler or seam gauge, a loop turner, safety pin or blunt tool for turning the strap, and a hand sewing needle for closing the turning opening if you choose to close it by hand.
